The Department also grants a PhD degree in subjects covering the entire spectrum of health sciences (Government Gazette 1156/29-3-2018). Doctoral studies aim to create high-quality contemporary scientific research, as well as to train scientists capable of contributing to the progress and development of science and research. The graduates of the doctoral programmes are intended to staff the research, business and educational potential of Greece and abroad. At the same time, the doctoral programme is a source of academic prestige and international academic distinction for the Department, as well as for the University in general, and contributes to the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of research production.

In particular, the aim of the PhD programme of the Department of Nursing is the promotion of knowledge, the development of research in Nursing Science and related disciplines of Health Sciences, as well as the creation of researchers capable of contributing to the promotion of research, technology and higher education in the field of Nursing Science and related Health Sciences.
